About

Woodland creature

I am Susie Sage and I am a textile artist specialising in needle felting. I run my small business Wild & Wool from my home in the heart of beautiful Bath.

During my early childhood years I grew up on the island of Islay. The wild and beautiful Scottish landscape influenced and fuelled my passion for the natural world and the creatures who live in it. I am an Honours degree graduate in Graphic Design from Glasgow School of Art. This led to a job in BBC News and Current Affairs where I created computer graphics for television for a number of years in London. This time as part of an award winning team of designers honed skills such as working to deadline, client relations, eye for detail and creative solutions to briefs. Craft and hands on making has always been a passion through my life. When I discovered the art of needle felting I knew that this was a creative interest that I wanted to explore and develop. I love the tactile and forgiving nature of wool as a medium. It's also hard to beat it as a natural, sustainable fibre.

Wild & Wool was set up in 2015 by founding partners Susie Sage and Katrina Nicholas. The business was launched with a collaboration between ourselves and Ayo Atkintola, MD Oddbins when we were approached to design characters for their Christmas campaign #WhatTheFox. This involved making 47 individual 1 metre-high needle felted foxes dressed in Harris tweed to star in their windows from Aberdeen to London. As far as I know, Wild & Wool is the only company that make needle felted standing characters to this height. This project is one we are very proud of but sadly at this point Katrina left the business due to increased family commitments.
